ate and ate at the feeder....like the knew
bad weather was coming.
Here is a Chickadee (Carolina, I think) that was
perched on an icy branch.
You can tell he is a male
because of the red spot on his head.
We call him "Harry" (how original)
And the female we call "Harriett"
The ice had started to melt a bit and he looked quite
wet to me.

CORRECTION - THIS IS A DOWNY WOODPECKER
which is similar to a Hairy Woodpecker but smaller
Thanks to a commenter for pointing this out :)

My dad always taught us to watch the animals, their behavior, winter coats, and feeding habits, that they will tell the story of what is to come. Those are such good pictures of the birds. I am so looking forward to getting back into my photography, it has been hard this year having our granddaughter here, raising her, but look out she when she begins walking outside we will be as I miss the nature so much. Cabin Fever???
ReplyDeleteJust fantastic shots, love how the drops of water just hang, and you caught them before they dropped.
ReplyDeleteUrban Jungle post 4 now up.
Beautiful shots! The little chickadee looks like he (or she) is frozen too. I would like to get a shot of a wood pecker. There was one at the feeder a few days ago but he (or she) lol took off when I went to get the camera.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! We have the same bird, but instead of ice we have snow.
ReplyDeleteAmazing two bird photos. Over here none of that... as you will be able to see on my next post!
