I'm going with monarch based on him not having a cross bar on his wing.
ReplyDeleteKerri
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it's a Monarch. The coloring is lighter, and the white spots on the bottom of the hind wing are more numerous than the Viceroy.
Have a super day.
It's beautiful... I'm not an expert in butterfly analysis but I will just revel in its glory.
ReplyDeleteI'm not an expert but whatever type he is he is a beauty! You haev done a wonderful job of capturing him :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful butterfly.
ReplyDeleteI think it is beautiful and I would say a Monarch too.
ReplyDeleteHi Kerri,
ReplyDeleteIt's a monarch as the hind wing doesn't have the added black line that crosses over the beautiful pattern on viceroys. ;-)
OH! I forgot to say I think the photo is very good!
ReplyDeleteI have no idea whether it's a monarch or viceroy, but I do know that it's a wonderful photo! Great work!
ReplyDeleteperfect shot!
ReplyDeleteI think your macro shots are fantastic.
ReplyDeleteHe's a beauty by either name :)
ReplyDeleteEither way... beautiful photo, Kerri!
ReplyDeleteI'm no good at naming flowers, birds, or butterflies. It's a beauty whatever it is!
ReplyDeleteI am betting on Monarch because I believe it is on a milkweed plant. Either way, it sure is an excellent photo!
ReplyDeleteIf you would like to visit my Camera Critters, they are here and here.
Whoever he is, he's gorgeous! But I'll go with the majority and say he's a Monarch!
ReplyDeleteWOW what a shot
ReplyDeleteI love both versions but I especially like the enhanced one.
ReplyDeletePerfect pose for you :)
Beautiful butterfly.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous macro, Kerri!
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't matter.. it's a beauty! I was graced by ones presence and kindness to sit still for a photo recently too. It's quite the thrill, eh? Great shot!
ReplyDeleteThe most important thing: It is a beauty!
ReplyDeleteLovely picture of the monarch. I'm glad you enjoyed my chicory photograph from yesterday.
ReplyDeleteI don't know of what kind this butterfly is but I really love these creatures. This one on your photo is lovely with its beautiful decorated wings that mathces nicely with the background colour. I really like the whole composition of the photo!
ReplyDeleteMonarch...no line across the hind wing. I had to look it up because I forgot which one had the line and which one didn't :-)
ReplyDeleteKerri-That's a beautiful shot! I too will vote for it being a monarch!
ReplyDeleteYou are getting in close to your subject, which is most effective! Very nice photo.
ReplyDeleteMonarch.
ReplyDeleteI took some similar photos today when I was out walking. Moths. Gonna post them in a few days or so.
You done real good here. Real good.
Beautiful, just beautiful! The only butterfly I can identify is the Tiger Swallowtail. lol
