Good lord...what an adventure you had! The first pic is lovely...the second one makes me wonder just how slowly you were walking???? Were they waiting for you to drop? LOL There must have been something dead nearby? which brings me to the bug...RUN!!!!!!
That looks like a flying scorpion giant mosquito....and again..I wonder what those vultures were waiting to eat...and exactly how did it die????
Like I said....RUN!!!
Wow ... what a strange encounter ! And what a special looking bird this vulture - I've never seen one in life :) It must be impressive to discover such a bird upon your head :))
The bug is a scorpion fly. Ugly bug. We have some weird bugs here, but I've never seen one of those! We have turkey vultures, see them all the time. This is very similar to them.
Wow, amazing photos, and what a wonderful close up of the black vulture, amazing - although only a face a mom could love
dan
What a great shot of the vulture Kerri! We often see them gathered along with the Turkey Vultures. There must have been something tasty near by for him to be so willing to sit there and be photographed!
Love your Thrasher too, and yipes, I'd steer clear of that bug!
I'm with Sue, holy cow you better run! That bug is the freakiest thing I've seen in a long time! And the fact that the Vultures were staring at you like that ... hopefully it's no an omen! lol!
Amazing photographs! Fascinating critters you captured on your walk. I hope someone can identify that insect for you.
Great pictures. Looks like you had a great day!
Great photos!! No clue what the last one is but it is very interesting!!
Great images Kerri! And yes, definitely a black vulture.
Love, love, love the Thrasher picture. The Vulture, well it's a good picture but that face is one only a mother could love. Now for the bug,You get the most amazing pictures of these creatures.I am in awe.
Have a fabulous day.
Blessings,Ruth
Kerri,
Enjoyed your Thrasher photo a great deal. Once you get onto some dragonflies watch out you'll be hooked. I found a rare one in a river yesterday a Septima's Clubtail, been watching dragonflies for going on 10 years finding something new can be very exciting! Good Luck today!
The Brown Thrasher is very pretty. The Black Vulture, not so! My goodness, your photos are fantastic!
I thought TV's were only interested in dead offerings..Lol.
Fabulous images Kerri.
Enjoyment in the search of a dragon-fly, is finding more shots.
What great shots, Kerri! Vultures (any variety)are not afraid of people at all. We have a lot of turkey vultures on the island and I can walk the dogs right by them and they never even look up from whatever they're eating. Creepy.
That brown thrasher was well worth getting out for!
True, the second photo is NOT a turkey vulture. Turkey vultures are so ugly!! This bird is way more good looking. :)
Great photo of the Brown Thrasher!
Oooh, do those things bite? Or sting?
Great captures of the vulture and thrasher, too.
All of your photos are just super. How cool to get so close to the vultures and to be able to snap those pictures.
A happy day to you Kerri. :-)
You did have a great walk! I love all the images from your day!
Eek, no wonder they call them vultures...they WATCH or spy, or stalk. Such a darling bird in the first pic.
Kerri, I'm a city kid :) I only know mosquitoes because they bite me!
Gorgeous photos!!!
You are so cool. And yes, that's a black vulture. Their sense of smell isn't as keen as the turkey vulture and they sometimes follow them around.
A beautiful shot of the Brown Thrasher: not a bird that I have seen before.
