Up and Down

Red Admiral found.....

He was quite cooperative with me. I was able to get him with his wings up .....
...... and with his wings down. I love it that they take on a whole new look depending on how they have their wings.

For what you see and hear depends a good deal on where you are standing: it also depends on what sort of person you are.

  1. Interesting, red admirals are, oddly enough, a regular fixture in our yard. They arrived a few weeks ago and will likely be around until the leaves start to fall in autumn.
    Lovely photos!

  3. Kerri,

Getting a series of decent photos of a Red Admiral is much harder than getting a dragonfly photo! KUDOs. We have lots of Red Admirals in the evening on the road here, but they are very skiddish.

  10. Kerri, I'm adding you to my Kindred Spirits (favorite blogs) because I keep missing your beautiful posts. I looked back at your butterflies, birds, even those black ugly birds and they're all so beautiful. Have a good day, Diane

  12. Oh thanks for IDing this critter. I've been seeing a lot of them, and only them around lately and they've been very elusive. I only managed one semi-revealing shot of its wings and now I know what it is. Thank you! :)

  13. It's a beautiful shot, Kerri.
The wings thing is interesting- I'm sure nature has some reason for it- it always does! But it reminds me of reversible clothes, or a Red Riding Hood doll that my daughter had, but if you flipped her dress, she became the wicked woman!
Wouldn't it be fun to be able to achieve a totally new look "with the flick of a wing"!!
