Red Admiral found.....
He was quite cooperative with me. I was able to get him with his wings up .....
...... and with his wings down. I love it that they take on a whole new look depending on how they have their wings.

Interesting, red admirals are, oddly enough, a regular fixture in our yard. They arrived a few weeks ago and will likely be around until the leaves start to fall in autumn.

ReplyDeleteGetting a series of decent photos of a Red Admiral is much harder than getting a dragonfly photo! KUDOs. We have lots of Red Admirals in the evening on the road here, but they are very skiddish.

ReplyDeleteOh thanks for IDing this critter. I've been seeing a lot of them, and only them around lately and they've been very elusive. I only managed one semi-revealing shot of its wings and now I know what it is. Thank you! :)

ReplyDeleteThe wings thing is interesting- I'm sure nature has some reason for it- it always does! But it reminds me of reversible clothes, or a Red Riding Hood doll that my daughter had, but if you flipped her dress, she became the wicked woman!
Wouldn't it be fun to be able to achieve a totally new look "with the flick of a wing"!!
