Tell Me How Many Beads There Are...

...Tell me how many beads there are
In a silver chain
 Of evening rain,
Unraveled from the tumbling main....

On The Surface

There is a way that nature speaks,
                                      that land speaks.
Most of the time we are simply
                            not patient enough, quiet enough
to pay attention to the story.
 ~ Linda Hogan

Up The Creek!

You do not need to know
 precisely what is happening,
or exactly where it is all going.
What you need is to
 recognize the possibilities and challenges
offered by the present moment,
 and to embrace them with
 courage, faith and hope.
 — Thomas Merton

Oh What a Sky!

How clear, how lovely bright,
How beautiful to sight
Those beams of morning play;
How heaven laughs out with glee
Where, like a bird set free,
Up from the eastern sea
Soars the delightful day.

― A.E. Housman, A Shropshire Lad

What a Wonderful World

White-breasted Nuthatch

I see trees of green, red roses, too,
I see them bloom, for me and you
And I think to myself
 What a wonderful world.

No trees of green yet - but LOTS of bird activity.
I am being serenaded in the mornings by the Robins and Cardinals
and I think to myself - What a Wonderful World!!

Meet In The Middle

When I took this shot
I immediately thought of this Diamond Rio song:

I start walkin your way
you start walkin mine
we meet in the middle
'neath that old Georgia pine
We gain a lot of ground
cuz we both give a little
aint no road to long
when we meet in the middle
(This is just the chorus)

Pileated Woodpecker

It's not necessary to go far and wide. I mean, you can really find exciting and inspiring things within your hometown.
- Daryl Hannah

I am not sure what Daryl Hannah was referring to
in her quote - but I sure can find
a LOT of exciting things in my hometown...
I just have to step outside the door.

In the Snowstorm - Male Cardinal

Welcome the present moment
as if you had invited it.
Why? Because it is all we ever have.
 ~ Pema Chodron

The Sounds of Spring

What signals the arrival of Spring?
Is it a date on the calendar?  The temperature outside?
The flowers that we see popping up?
It may be all of these - but it is also the Sounds We Hear.
And yesterday I heard the Sounds of Spring with the
arrival of the Red-winged Blackbirds

And so I pointed my camera through the glass window
and captured this one in the tree.  He was FAR away but
I got a decent shot with my 500mm lens.
Hurray for long lenses!
We are supposed to be in the 50s today and tomorrow - so I am hoping to get out and about, although we still have snow on the ground.

No winter lasts forever; no spring skips its turn.
~ Hal Borland
