If you are regular to my blog, you know that I normally post a Wordless Wednesday picture. In fact, MOST of my blog is full of pictures, not words. Today is different….Today I wanted to document my Yesterday.
As I may have mentioned before on my blog, my Mom has Crohn’s disease. This is not a familiar disease to most. There is no cure, however, there have been a lot of new medicines available since she was diagnosed in 1992. She travels to The University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville every seven weeks for a Remicade Infusion.
My two sisters and brother divide these trips between us. Yesterday was my turn to take her to this appointment.
She came over on Monday evening and we had a very nice time. We got up EARLY yesterday (Tuesday) to travel the 3 hours to her appointment. The appointment lasts about 3 hours, and then we travel home. What a wonderful time we had….just talking in the car being together. We stopped for lunch after her appointment, and to break up the day a little, we visited the P.Buckley Moss Museum in Waynesboro, Virginia. I was so inspired by the story of Pat Buckley Moss and her talent. What awesome talent!
Mom really liked the museum, too.
During the trip home I asked my Mom what her favorite Hymn is. She said she LOVES a lot of hymns, but that her favorite may be “Standing on the Promises of God.” I told her that my favorite hymn was “How Great Thou Art”. She then started singing, first her favorite and then mine. And all the while, tears are streaming down my face. It was like I was three years old again, and my Mommy was singing songs to me. As I write this I have tears streaming. I guess words really can’t express the feelings I felt during this time. This will be a moment that I will cherish forever and the highlight of our time together.
Yesterday was such an AWESOME day that I just had to write about it.
Oh, Kerri....I'm crying now, too. I love both of the hymns and wish I was singing with you. Never give up hope! I know several people with Crohn's who do quite well. They have bad spells, but lots of good ones. Has she had any surgery? I will keep both you and your mom in my prayers. God blessed you with an awesome day, as you say.
ReplyDeleteYou got me Kerri...my thoughts went right to my mom and me and how few of these times we shared...not from lack of love...but from lack of opportunity and/or from a life that dictated space. Glad for you!

ReplyDeleteI am familiar with Crohn's. A few years ago I was being tested for all sorts of things including Crohn's. Thankfully for me my DX was not Crohn's it was something less difficult, but I do have a friend who suffers from it since they were a child and it is a very difficult disease to manage. My best to her and I am glad that she is getting treatment.

ReplyDeleteMe too, I'm crying. God bless you both! One of the last things I remember about my mum is how she brought a homemade cake to me at work on my birthday. I can still see her standing there with a big smile on her face, holding out the cake!

ReplyDeleteIt must be so nice to be close to your mom. It's also nice to hear that you and your siblings take turns bringing her to her appointments - I hear so many times about one kid doing everything. Sounds like you have a great family.
I have heard of Crohn's but don't really know what it is. I'm off now to learn about it.

Kerri. I am familiar with Crohn's. I have worked in the medical profession for so many years, and a co-worker's husband has Crohn's. He has had so much trouble and many surgeries and like your Mom has to travel great distances for treatment, but it is working. What a wonderful time for the two of you, and the memories will last a life time. God bless you both. Thanks so very much for sharing this time with us.
