On the Milkweed

There is an abundance of Milkweed in our area.
Whenever I see milkweed, I'm sure to see butterflies, bees and bugs!

There is a lot of it here, too. I love the color. It's the only place mauve looks good! Your photography is wonderful.

How lucky you are! I have seen two Tiger Swallowtails but they were in flight and I could not get a photo. This butterfly is beautiful!

Gorgeous photo! I love that butterfly! I don't seem to be able to catch those lovely butterflies, only the white ones - and bugs! So - I am green with envy here.... :)

Have a great week!

Abundance of milkweed -> abundance of bees, butterflies, and bugs -> abundance of awesome photos like this one!

The D90 certainly is a good choice. You may also wish to consider the new D5000, which is a small step down but has many of the same features at a slightly lower price point. It would handle more like the D40X, which may be good or bad depending on your preferences for menus or dials.

I use the D40, so you're actually already a step up from me. If I was upgrading to that level of DSLR, I would get the D90 because I like the swiftness that dial controls give, the higher resolution LCD, and the fact that the D90 has the autofocus lens motor built in, meaning that more lenses are AF compatible with it.

Oh, and I don't often use tripods either! I hate lugging them around, and they make you obvious to passerbys/observers.

Your photos are wonderful. I am so happy that I happened upon you. I am just a beginner at photography, but am loving the journey. I will surely be back to peruse all your work. Thanks for sharing!

Wonderful shot, it looks almost like slide film (which I love), all rich colors and contrasty.

Milkweeds are like a comfort flower to me. Just a weed but offers so many different faces. We use to pick and cook & eat the top leaves when we were growing up.
