Unknown Butterfly

This little guy is a first for me. I've never seen one of these butterflies before. I looked in my butterfly guide but could not find it ~ so again ~ I need all the help you can give me for ID :)
Updated: Found out this is an Eight spotted forester moth - not a butterfly at all. Very cool!

I believe this is a moth. I'll check back to see if anyone recognizes him. I say him, may be a she, anyway your photo is beautiful.

Very pretty, it reminds me of some type of moth. Will be interesting to learn what it is.

I am unfamiliar with species in your area but this one is a moth becuase of the antennae. Butterflies have those little dotted antennae with balls on the end and moths have wavy ones. Some lovely photo's on here, I have really enjoyed looking through them all :D

Beautiful. Don't know what it is either. Was it taken in VA? Do you have any other shots of it?
