This is a skipper from a few years back. For me - skippers are the HARDEST butterflies to ID - LOTS of them look quite the same. To be honest - before I started "seeing" more with the camera I didn't even notice these little guys, much less realize that they were butterflies. ReplyDeleteThis is a Sachem learn this one and half the battle is over. When we bring beginners on butterfly counts they ask over and over what is this one. It is usually another Sachem.
We had one that looked just like that on our door yesterday, but since you say they're hard to ID I don't know if it really was or not.
