Red-bellied Woodpecker - and His Red Belly

Each today, well-lived, makes yesterday a dream of happiness and each tomorrow a vision of hope. Look, therefore, to this one day, for it and it alone is life.
~ Sanskrit Poem

About this image: Looking thru my archives I found this Red-bellied Woodpecker - showing his Red Belly. I grew up calling his guy a "Red-headed" woodpecker .... well he does have a red head - but he isn't a Red-headed Woodpecker. If you look closely you can see his tongue too.

Great photograph! When we moved here our neighbors talked about how many Red-headed Woodpeckers were around. I had not seen even one. The neighbor was visiting us and told me there was one at our birdfeeder. What she was seeing was a Red-bellied. Since the Red-headed Woodpecker is one of my very favorite birds I was a bit disappointed. But we do enjoy the Red-bellied and love to see them feeding their fledglings on our deck.

I can't even imagine this was taken through glass, and I've never used an iSO that high. The photo has such rich color and detail - amazing!

...love his little red belly! It's really sharp for that high of an ISO. I've been using a D-7000 lately too. I like it because it has video capabilities. it's doing a great job. I've never tried that high of an ISO, though! I'll have to give it a try.

Spectacular! I thought these were red-headed too until I photographed my first red-bellied. The different types of woodpeckers are fascinating. You took a phenomenal photo here!

You have so many colorful birds! With the cold weather, we are down to the sparrows and a few late purple headed finch. Not much color left here. :(
