Dancing Under the Sky

When one sees the tree in leaf,
one thinks the beauty of the tree is in it's leaves,
and then one sees the bare tree.

A Walk Along The Trail

What is most important is to find peace
and to share it with others.
To have peace, you can begin
by walking peacefully.
Everything depends on your steps.
 ~ Thich Nhat Hanh

American Wigeon

“Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts. There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature -- the assurance that dawn comes after night, and spring after winter.”
― Rachel Carson

Fritillary Butterfly on Butterfly Milkweed

"How true it is that, if we are cheerful and contented, all nature smiles, the air seems more balmy, the sky clearer, the earth has a brighter green... the flowers are more fragrant... and the sun, moon, and stars all appear more beautiful, and seem to rejoice with us."
- Orison Swett Marden

Monarch Caterpillar

"Look closely. The beautiful may be small."
~ Immanuel Kant

Tiny Monarch Caterpillar - this is my first of the year sighting. - Deerfield Trail, Blacksburg, Virginia
06-30-19
Each weekend I try to get out and inspect the milkweed that grows in and around the many greenways and trails in Blacksburg. I was rewarded with my first sighting of a tiny monarch caterpillar - who I hope grows up to become a beautiful monarch butterfly.

Mallard Couple On The Pond

It is only when we silent the blaring sounds of our daily existence that we can finally hear the whispers of truth that life reveals to us, as it stands knocking on the doorsteps of our hearts.

What are those green things on the forest floor?

These are the first "green things" of late winter/early spring
I find in the forest (along with ferns).  These pop up before
the wildflowers.
I wondered what they were.

I have found out that they are called Fan Clubmoss
also known as Ground Cedar and also known as Bears Paw in Southwest Virginia (where I am)

Wikipedia has some great info on this plant - HERE

These were seen during my walk along
Deerfield Trail in Blacksburg, VA on 02-21-18

Spring Beginnings Along The Creek - Deerfield Trail Blacksburg, Virginia

“Spring drew on...and a greenness grew over those brown beds, which, freshening daily, suggested the thought that Hope traversed them at night, and left each morning brighter traces of her steps.”

Fenced In

"The grass is not, in fact, always greener on the other side of the fence. No, not at all. Fences have nothing to do with it. The grass is greenest where it is watered. When crossing over fences, carry water with you and tend the grass wherever you may be."
 — Robert Fulghum
